The invention of the World Wide Web has certainly benefited communications and information sharing among genealogists. Unfortunately, it also allows incorrect information to be spread at light speed. I have noticed information about Elijah White Roach that I believe to be incorrect. In this article, I will attempt to factually outline the children of the Reverend Elijah White Roach based on as factual information as I have been able to obtain.

Family Stories

Migration of Elijah White Roach Descendants to Texas, by Richard Beaver

Although Elijah White Roach spent his life in Virginia, he had a major impact on both Collin and Dallas Counties as several of his children moved here in the 1870’s and 1880’s, possibly before 1860. The impact of this early migration is still being felt today as the Roach family continues to influence the lives of the county citizens by actively serving the cities, schools, and churches.

Elijah White Roach, Virginia Baptist Ministers, Third Series

In a country churchyard, in Charlotte County, there stands a modest stone over the grave of one of the most useful and beloved pastors of the Baptists of Virginia.

Elijah White Roach Descendants Family Reunion - May 20, 1934

All of the following persons were together on May 20, 1934, Memorial Day, at Rowlett Cemetery, Collin County, Texas.

Elijah Thomas Roach Family -- One of the founding families of Frisco

Travelers from the Southwest, and from Texas particularly, brought glowing tales back to Virginia of a little town on the Trinity called Dallas, and of the black land, then mostly prairie, which extended northward into the county called Collin. And, as Lynchburg was becoming a little too densely populated to please Elijah Thomas and his cousin John White Roach, and, as competition was growing in the lumber and drayage business, the two cousins decided to heed the call of this new, almost unsettled land. They sold their household furnishings, gathered their families together, and traveled by train to arrive at the village of Plano in the fall of 1887. John White went immediately to Dallas, but Elijah Thomas liked what he saw around Lebanon, bought a wagon and team of horses, and engaged in the same type of work he pursued in Virginia, lumber and drayage.

Emmett Dillard Roach Family

In 1929, Emmett purchased the farm north of Frisco known as the Sneathern farm; then, bang! The depression of 1929, which extended into the middle thirties, hit. Emmett’s health was failing so he purchased the farm just east of Preston Road, adjacent to the Sneathern farm, which would require less work. It was on this farm on Preston Road that he fell and fractured his neck on October 23, 1938. He was waiting for the workers to round up some wild cattle, which had broken out of the corral.

Thomas Emmett Roach Family

Everyone had a rough time during the depression, but Tom & Irene worked hard and were able to purchase 180 acres of land on Preston Road about one mile north of Main Street in 1936. Tom was so proud of the purchase and could hardly wait to take Irene out to see the property, which was basically a big white rock hill with a few trees scattered around in the pastures. Irene, a rather reserved woman not known to say anything off color observed the property. When asked what she thought, Irene said that they would name it the ‘Nudist Ranch’ because it didn’t have a damn thing on it. For many years thereafter, everyone in the area knew about the ‘Nudist Ranch’.
