Committee Organization
Part of PTSA: We will be under PTSA umbrella as a committee. Advantages – non profit status & liability insurance; do not have to have our own bank account or file taxes.
Structure: We need our own “executive board” for this committee.
- Chairman of Senior Parents committee -- heads the executive board and sits on the PTSA board. Coordinates.
- Webmaster/Membership -- Maintains Senior 2009/Parent Website and member/volunteer database.
- Richard Beaver
was drafted by his wife volunteered.
- Publicity – Flyers/forms, Redhawk News
- Deanna Galyean volunteered.
- Fundraising Coordinator should we decide to pursue fundraising activities.
- Volunteer Coordinator
- 2 Student Liaisons (1 boy, 1 girl)
- Richard Beaver needs to come up with a form and place it on the web site.
Activity Survey
Elaine Butler reports that CHS sent out a survey to all incoming seniors that had 50+ activities listed and were asked to choose top 10. This became the basis for senior activities. We need to get input for the form and the form distributed and back in April. Summer or beginning of school activities will have to be in the PTSA summer budget which will be voted on in May.
- John Bracco volunteered to do this in the next two weeks.
Activities are optional – seniors can pick and choose which events to attend after we decide which events to offer. Activities will be open to all seniors.
Volunteer Opportunities
We have a large volunteer base (60+) and I want to use everybody in some capacity. I am just going to throw this idea out and see what you think…a different group of parents will be in charge of and run each senior event. For example, the cheerleader parents could host the back-to-school event, the student council parents could host the bonfire, the band parents a breakfast, the volleyball parents the next event, etc… I don’t want parents to feel overburdened – we all have other organizations we are involved with and if we can spread the responsibility for these events, then everyone can feel like they contributed and will not feel overwhelmed.
These different groups do not have to fund the events, we will collect money from any seniors who want to attend; you would just need to coordinate, chaperone, request any additional volunteers, etc…
A handful of volunteers cannot run all of the events. If it gets to the point where there is not much parental involvement, senior activities will have to be scaled back.
Fundraising
Determined by events selected? Door prizes? Give-aways? Is this even necessary?
- People should email their fund raising ideas to Jill.
